New Delhi, March 25 – Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda has announced that the Intensified Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Campaign will be expanded to all districts across India as part of the government’s mission to eradicate TB by 2025.
Speaking at a high-level meeting, Nadda emphasized the need for early detection, enhanced treatment accessibility, and community participation in combating TB. He stated that the campaign, which was initially implemented in select high-burden districts, has shown significant success in identifying and treating TB patients.
“The government is committed to eliminating tuberculosis from India well before the global target of 2030. By expanding the Intensified TB Elimination Campaign to all districts, we aim to ensure timely diagnosis, effective treatment, and comprehensive awareness programs at the grassroots level,” Nadda said.
The campaign includes active case-finding initiatives, free diagnostic and treatment facilities, and nutritional support for TB patients under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana. The Health Ministry is also leveraging AI-based diagnostic tools, digital tracking systems, and community engagement programs to strengthen the fight against TB.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), India accounts for the highest number of TB cases globally. However, with the aggressive measures undertaken by the government, including the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, the country has made notable progress in reducing TB incidence and mortality rates.
